Pediatric cardiac surgery teams now may have a new tool in their arsenal to prevent brain injury in children who undergo surgery for congenital heart defects. Current statistics show that the incidence of brain injury during pediatric heart surgery is between 30 and 70 percent. Before now, there were few options available to the surgical team to evaluate and assess brain injury while it was occurring during surgery. The test, the hemoglobin volume index, allows the doctors to detect change in brain blood flow.

Collisions between large trucks and other motor vehicles can cause a great deal of harm to the individuals involved. Sadly, such accidents can sometimes even result in an individual's death. This can be seen in a truck accident that occurred over the weekend in California.
The accident happened on Sunday in Monterey County, California. Reportedly, that morning, a 42-year-old man was driving a tractor-trailer along Highway 101. Allegedly, the tractor-trailer then struck the rear of a classic car which was also going along this road. The car was being driven by a 47-year-old man and was part of a group of classic cars which was travelling along the road. According to authorities, this collision resulted in the 47-year-old man's car flipping.

With spring blooming, it means it's time for motorcycle season. In the past month or so, many California bikers and others across the nation have pulled their motorcycles out of hibernation. However, a recent story reports that with more bikes on the road, this might mean more motorcycle accidents.
Statistics from the Federal Highway Administration show that there were around eight million motorcycles on U.S. roads in 2009. In 2010, U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed that 4,502 people died and 82,000 motorcyclists were injured in motorcycle collisions.
